The knee is your primary weight-bearing joint. Top treatment for a torn meniscus in the knee can be found at Spine and Sports Medicine in Midtown Manhattan. Our Multidisciplinary Health Care Team is comprised of doctors and licensed therapeutic professionals having the education and clinical experience to make an informed diagnosis on the severity of a meniscus tear. Without an accurate diagnosis, a torn meniscus will worsen through ineffective rehabilitation.

The Torn Meniscus

A meniscus tear is a common knee injury occurring in the cartilage cushioning the shinbone from the thighbone. The cushion provided by the meniscus is a rubbery, C-shaped disc that can be torn with forceful twisting or rotation of the knee.

The menisci stabilize the knee by balancing the body’s entire weight. When torn, the knee is prevented from working properly and the body’s weight becomes imbalanced.

Diagnosing the Torn Meniscus

A licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy at Spine and Sports Medicine will accurately diagnose and design a treatment plan for a meniscus tear.

A thorough diagnoses includes:

  • Physical examination of the knee
  • Accounting of symptoms
  • History of activity leading up to the injury
  • Analysis of patient’s medical history
  • X-Ray – CT Scan – MRI

Pre- and Post-Surgery Physical Therapy Rehabilitation

The Doctors of Physical Therapy at Spine and Sports Medicine have the specialization to stabilize and rehabilitate your torn meniscus injury both before and after surgery. Extensive physical therapy will be essential pre- and post-surgery for your meniscus tear to heal properly and avoid degenerative arthritis from developing.

Offerings through Physical Therapy:

  • Hands-On Treatment
