Trigger point injections are a therapeutic treatment for inactivating focal areas of pain. Treatment is focused on pain management for a targeted area. This treatment provides prompt and effective relief for myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, and tension headache. A palpable nodule in the muscle where the trigger point is located is often found. The focal area and nodule are tender when pushed and pain radiates from the trigger point to surrounding areas.

Trigger Point Injections

  • Trigger points are focal areas of muscle spasm and inflammation in skeletal muscle
  • A trigger point injection is the administration of medication directly into the area of muscle spasm where the palpable nodule in the muscle is located
  • The most common area of muscle spasm trigger points are located in the upper back and should areas – the rhomboid and trapezius back muscles
  • Trigger points can also occur in the low back and in extremities

Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture points are located on meridians through which gi vital energy runs. The procedure involves the insertion of very thin needles through the patient’s skin at targeted areas of the head, torso, limbs and extremities. These needles are inserted at various depths, depending upon the patient’s diagnosed medical condition.

Originating from China thousands of years ago, pain relief through acupuncture has been successfully practiced in the United States since the 20 th Century. The practice of acupuncture for pain management facilitates a circulation of energy to the patient’s targeted area of discomfort.
